Did You Know?

This weekend (well, Thursday night through Saturday) I was at the Colorado Education Association's annual Delegate Assembly. I wanted to share a few media things I saw there that I enjoyed.

But first, I think this is more important: This is a blog entry with photographs about a group of Palestinians who planted trees in support of Virginia Tech victims. I just thought it was really wonderful.

Here is a video from the planting:

Now, about the Assembly. President Beverly Ingle gave a state of the association address. She borrowed these two EDS commercials up to the line that says, "In a sense, this is what we do". They're pretty funny, and she made them funnier by the context of her speech.

The funniest speech of the assembly was by Executive Director David Duvall, with numerous references to whacky country song titles. If anyone wants his speech, I have his e-mail address and can share with you; I asked him and he said he could send it out electronically to those interested.

We got to participate in some polling using "clickers" that count votes and show the results on a projector screen/ computer right away. The clickers are a classroom technology I would love to use in my school but they're really expensive.

This third video is a presentation about the changing educational needs of children for the 21st century. It is interesting (at least I think so). You might call it "Did You Know?" or "Shift Happens".

It came from the author of this blog, who is a tech person at a high school here in Colorado: TheFischbowl.

The business of the conference went well and I'm glad to be back home.

Finally, I've really been enjoying Dua Sabah lately - it is recommended for reciting at fajr. It is intensely beautiful. I changed the video feed search phrase to Dua Sabah - you can watch a ppt with English subtitles there for now (see the sidebar, then watch at the top of the main frame.) I found two translations online:

Dua Sabah
