Bear Creek Canyon (High Drive, Bear Creek Canyon, Captain Jack's, Mine, Mt. Buckhorn loop) 6/14/13

Hiking notes:  Bear Creek Trail is relentlessly uphill until Captain Jack's. Total elevation gain about 2000 ft. Our route started at the big lot by Upper Gold Camp.  We walked down High Drive to the Bear Creek Canyon trailhead, then up the trail head to the mining cave a mile or so past Captain Jack, then back to Captain Jack's, quick summit of Mt. Buckhorn, back down to High Drive and back to the lot.  Route about 7.5 miles, needs maybe 5 hours to do.  Beautiful falls and creekside views, feels more 'wild' than nearby North Cheyenne Canyon - probably because it is somewhat less accessible for average hikers and less well-known.
