We've had a lot of heavy rain this year and that may have contributed to the baby's demise - it was there on Friday August 9 a.m. before the big rain that flooded Manitou, but not Saturday a.m. Neighbor found its body under the nest.
Update: Sept 1 2013 - heard baby kite calling - tracked down a new-to-me nest site just around the corner from here on Kiva Rd. right across from Hopi - only 100 yd or so from the nest here. One baby kite on branch.
Update 2: Saw 3 juveniles on Sept. 21 in tree behind my house - must be more than nest nearby. Saw no kites after Sept 21 - must have migrated just in time for the start of fall Sept. 22!
