Flammulated Owls 7-5-18

Remnants of the Hayman Fire burn area

Approaching dusk.

It rained before our arrival.

Dr. Brian Linkhart at one of his study trees setting up a net for the mother.

Mountain Chickadees and Red-naped Sapsuckers also had nest cavities in the same tree as the owls.

The mother comes out of the hole into the net.

He removes it from the net carefully.

Mom gets a little examination.

He goes to retrieve the nestlings aged about 17-19 days.

The nestlings also get a quick check-up and their data are recorded.

Time to put back the nestlings.

And time for mom to go, too - soon it will time for dad to start bringing in food.
